Happy Thanksgiving

Remember while you are out there standing in line in the cold, still full of Thanksgiving Turkey, hoping to be one of the first 200 people into Best Buy so you can win a 80" LED 4D Smart TV, why we celebrate Thanksgiving in the first place. It's not about football or mashed potatoes. Its about the people you love and the things you have that make your life special and complete. Keep that in mind before you slug someone for grabbing the sweatshirt you wanted to buy at Ross.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Climate Change Humor

Other than a few one liners from the late night talk shows, there really isn't much Climate Change humor out there. I searched the net and found a few things here and there, but its only a handful of jokes, and most just aren't that funny. I have been racking my brain, trying to come up with some, but I'm just not that funny (you can read my past columns for evidence of that). So, why am I looking for jokes about something that I keep insisting is a serious issue that has dire consequences if we fail to get our act together and stop damaging our Biosphere? Because something so serious and important HAS to have some humor in it somewhere. In order to get people to open up, we have to relieve the tension. After all, Comic Relief used comedy to raise awareness and funds for the homeless.

If anything, humor is needed to break the ice (pardon the pun) and get people to be receptive to an idea. I could walk around for the rest of my life (or at least until my home in the foothills of the Alps 1000 meters above sea level becomes water front property) spouting alarmist doom, but I would probably be taken as seriously as the homeless guy in Times Square with the sign that reads, "The End Is Near!" It is already happening. I get labeled a climate zealot and part of the liberal conspiracy to prop up the LED lightbulb industry. Forget that I have valid points and scientific data to support what I preach. I'm an alarmist! Back away before I put solar panels on your house!

    Think about it. What would

Here it is, in a Nutshell

Leonardo DiCaprio recently appeared before the UN during the climate change summit and delivered this succinct and direct message. Say what you want about Leo. Like him or don't. What he said was spot on and everyone should hear it.

We should get to decide if we want to live in a clean environment. We should not be forced to do so against our will.

Streamlining How We Do It

The House passed a new law last week that limits the number of scientists that can serve on the Science Advisory Board, the group that advises the EPA on all things science. So, that basically means that in order to protect the environment, the EPA will have to listen to the industries that are doing the polluting instead of the people who study the effects the pollution has on the environment and the public health. Its about time, if you ask me. I was getting tired of those poor corporations and industries getting picked on all the time. Thank God someone finally stood up for their rights to pollute. Now that that action was taken, it should open the door to take other just as important actions in order to fix our government.

Expanding on the EPA ruling, a new bill being put together now in the House would remove all atmospheric scientists and oceanographers from being able to advice the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Those pesky oceanographers think they know so much. Well, its about time we took them down a notch, don't you think? And the atmospheric "experts"? Please. Anyone can claim to be an expert. I'm not even sure what those guys do. So its good they can't slow down real progress anymore. Besides, all those models and charts, it's too confusing.

There's another bill that will also address the Department of Education and all of its issues. The bill proposes to eliminate any former teachers and administrators from advising the Executive Branch on Education. There is too much infighting in schools now as it is, with "No Child Left Behind" and the Core Lessons that no one understands. Teachers shouldn't have to handle classrooms full of 30 or 50 students. That's too many. Everyone knows that. But we don't need new teachers or more schools. Those are too difficult to come by, and super expensive. We need less students. Its about time we put someone in charge of education who has no idea what it is like to be in a classroom and who can cut off the withering appendage that is overcrowding.

A proposal to revamp the a key branch of the Justice Department is gaining momentum as well. This idea would require that only non-lawyers are allowed to hold the office of Attorney General and it's deputies. Law is so complicated. Expecting one person to be able to understand it all is unrealistic. So why not put someone in a position of power who understands nothing? You want Justice? Let's hire big game hunters or mercenaries. Those guys know how to bring it. Besides, it's not like the Attorney General does anything anyway, right? I mean, in all my life I have never even seen the Attorney General wear his uniform. That's just disrespectful to all of our veterans.

There are other burgeoning ideas that should be on the floor soon. Like the proposition to eliminate engineers from advising the Department of Transportation on things like bridge and tunnel projects or rail upgrades. (Have you ever talked to an engineer? Arrogant! Think they know everything like geometry and math. Good riddance.) Or the motion to eliminate the Securities and Exchange Commission completely so those victims that run Wall Street can get back to work without any interference. There is also swelling support to dismantle US Immigration Services and just closing off the borders completely. We can have gun owners man the border from then on, since we need the man power and those guys and gals will do it for free. Someone needs to protect our jobs.

These are hard choices that we need to make, people. Letting things like science, logic or reason determine our direction into the future would be a terrible mistake. I for one think its about time we do everything we can to make this country great again even if that means poisoning every citizen, failing to educate those who deserve an education and ignoring all those so called scientific "experts" that work in the basement of the science building. No more egg-heads! They are too hard to follow, impossible to understand and make my brain hurt. And they are hypocrites, right? I mean, aren't pocket protectors bad for the environment?
